Notion's Formula property lets you run dynamic calculations and conditional logic directly inside a database, turning static data into smart, auto-updating outputs. You can build formulas using built-in functions, reference other properties, and apply conditions to automate how each row is evaluated.
Steps
- Navigate to a database in which you would like to introduce a property of the type Formula.
- Click the (+) add icon to add a new property to your database.
- In the property type search field, search for Formula.
- Click on Formula to select it as the property type.
- Customize additional options and close the property panel.
- Click on the empty formula field to open and modify it.
- Browse the available functions by scrolling through the list to view all options.
- Review the correct usage, required fields, and description shown on the right-hand side.
- Enter your own customized formula using functions, properties, conditions, and outputs — for example, using an if condition to check whether a property like Progress is not empty.
- Click Done to apply your formula.
- Confirm that your property column is now populated based on the output of your Formula.
