How to Zoom Out in Tableau

Use this step-by-step demo to learn how to zoom out in Tableau.
  1. To display the zoom toolbar, go to the 'Worksheet' menu at the top of the screen, select 'Show View Toolbar', then choose 'Automatic' or 'Show Toolbar on Hover'.
  2. The zoom toolbar will appear on your screen. Click the ‘minus’ (–) icon to zoom out of your table.
  3. The chart will zoom out.

📌 Why this matters

Zooming out reveals patterns and trends that get lost when you're focused on individual data points. When you're deep in analysis, it's easy to get tunnel vision on specific values or outliers. Pulling back gives you the full picture of your data's distribution, seasonal patterns, and overall trajectory. This broader perspective often reveals correlations between different parts of your visualization that weren't obvious at closer magnification, helping you spot insights that drive better business decisions and more accurate conclusions.
