Use this interactive demo to learn how to automatically send Notion database updates to a Slack channel.

Quick summary

This demo shows how to connect Notion and Slack using Zapier so that new or updated database items automatically trigger a Slack notification. Setting up this Zap requires no coding and takes just minutes to configure end to end.

Steps

  1. Log in to Zapier, click "Create," and select "Zaps" to begin building your automation.
  2. Click "Trigger" and search for Notion to select it as the trigger app.
  3. Choose a trigger event — such as "New Database Item" or "Updated Database Item" — to define when Slack should be notified.
  4. Authorize Zapier to access your Notion account by completing the OAuth connection.
  5. Select the specific Notion database you want Zapier to monitor for changes.
  6. Run a test to confirm that Zapier correctly detects changes in your Notion database.
  7. Add Slack as the action app in the second step of your Zap.
  8. Choose an action event — such as "Send Channel Message" or "Send Direct Message" — to set how notifications are delivered.
  9. Authorize Zapier to access your Slack account via the OAuth flow.
  10. Enter the Slack channel name where notifications should be posted.
  11. Run a test to verify that Notion updates correctly trigger Slack notifications.
  12. Once the test passes, turn on your Zap to activate the Notion-to-Slack automation.

📌 Why this matters

Keeping distributed teams aligned across project management tools and communication platforms is a constant challenge. This Zapier integration between Notion and Slack eliminates manual status updates by automatically posting Slack notifications whenever a Notion database item is created or changed. Teams that rely on Notion for project tracking and Slack for day-to-day communication gain real-time visibility without switching between apps. The result is faster handoffs, fewer missed updates, and a fully automated workflow that requires zero code to set up.
