Use this interactive demo to learn how to create an eye-catching brochure in Adobe InDesign.

‍

‍

Here’s a simple, step-by-step guide on how to design and create a brochure using Adobe InDesign:

‍

  1. To create a brochure in Adobe InDesign, set up your document by going to: Open 'InDesign' → 'File' → 'New' → 'Document.'
  2. Choose Landscape orientation, set the pages to 2, and disable Facing Pages.
  3. Set the columns to 3 and adjust the gutter (space between columns) to 0.16 inches (5 mm).
  4. Set margins to 0.16–0.4 inches.
  5. Set the Top, Bottom, Left, and Right Bleed to 0.125 inches (3 mm) to ensure the images extend to the edge.
  6. Once the layout is set, click 'Create' to proceed to the new document.
  7. In the left-hand toolbar, select the tools you’ll need to design your brochure, such as the Type Tool, Rectangle Tool, Gradient Tool, and others.‍
  8. Import images via the File menu and click 'Place' to open the folder containing your images.

📌 Why this matters

You'll gain the ability to produce print-ready marketing materials that maintain consistent quality across different vendors and formats. Creating brochures gives you control over typography, color accuracy, and precise layouts that web-based design tools simply can't match.

Beyond the immediate marketing piece, you're building reusable templates and design systems that streamline future projects. The skills transfer directly to other print materials like flyers, newsletters, and business cards, making you self-sufficient for most marketing collateral needs without outsourcing to agencies.
