Use this interactive demo to learn how to build a funnel report in Mixpanel step by step.

Quick summary

A Mixpanel funnel report lets you track sequential event conversion across your user journey, from first touch to final action. This guide walks you through selecting funnel steps, configuring metrics, and saving your report inside a Mixpanel board.

Steps

  1. Open a board where you want to create your funnel report.
  2. Use the Add a report option on a new or existing board.
  3. Select Funnel Report from the report type menu.
  4. Review the funnel report page and identify the key settings panel on the left, including the Metrics you want to funnel.
  5. Pick the first event in your funnel sequence — funnels calculate conversion from one step to the next in sequential order.
  6. Select your first funnel step; in this demo we choose page view.
  7. Add the next event that follows page view; in this demo we choose sign in.
  8. Review the funnel visualization appearing on the right — add more steps or stop here depending on your analysis needs.
  9. Explore the completed funnel chart to understand conversion between events.
  10. Change the visualization type for your report using the options in the top right.
  11. Adjust the time window using the selector directly above the chart.
  12. Click the Metric setting above the filters panel to view and change the conversion metric being measured.
  13. Select a new metric and watch the visualization update automatically.
  14. Click the Save button in the top right to save your completed funnel report.

📌 Why this matters

Mixpanel funnel reports give product and growth teams a clear, quantified view of where users drop off between key actions — such as page view to sign-in or trial to purchase. By mapping sequential event conversion in a visual chart, teams can pinpoint friction points in the user journey and prioritize the improvements most likely to lift conversion rates. Building a funnel report in Mixpanel takes minutes and requires no SQL, making it accessible to analysts and marketers alike. For any SaaS or digital product team serious about reducing churn and improving activation, mastering Mixpanel funnels is an essential analytics skill.
