Use this interactive demo to learn how to insert an arrow in your Adobe InDesign documents.

‍

‍

This is a quick guide showing how to insert an arrow into a paragraph using a glyph in Adobe InDesign:

‍

  1. To insert an arrow in a paragraph in Adobe InDesign, go to the top menu and click ‘Type.’
  2. From the menu, select 'Glyphs.'
  3. The Glyphs dialog box will open. In the panel’s search bar, type ‘arrow’ to browse the available arrow glyphs.‍
  4. Choose the desired arrow from the Glyphs panel, and it will be inserted into the paragraph automatically when clicked.

📌 Why this matters

Adding arrows through glyphs gives you precise, scalable symbols that match your document's typography perfectly. Unlike importing arrow images or drawing shapes, glyphs maintain text formatting properties—they resize with your font, inherit color changes, and flow naturally within paragraphs.

This becomes invaluable when creating instructional materials, process diagrams, or directional callouts that need to stay consistent across different output formats. You'll also have access to specialized arrows like curved, double-headed, or decorative variants that would be difficult to source elsewhere.
