Use this interactive demo to learn how to link a Google Slides presentation inside a Google Doc.

Quick summary

Learn how to integrate Google Slides with Google Docs by copying a slide and pasting it as a linked image that stays in sync with your presentation. This step-by-step process lets you update slides across both tools without re-inserting content manually.

Steps

  1. In Google Slides, right-click the slide thumbnail you want to add to Google Docs.
  2. In the dropdown menu, click Copy.
  3. Right-click on the document canvas in Google Docs where you want to place the slide.
  4. In the dropdown menu, click Paste.
  5. In the Paste slide pop-up, select Link to presentation.
  6. Click Paste to confirm and insert the linked slide.
  7. Click the three-dot menu in the top right of the slide preview inside Google Docs.
  8. Select Open source from the dropdown menu to navigate back to the original presentation.
  9. Your slide is now linked to Google Docs — any updates made in Google Slides can be easily refreshed from your document.

📌 Why this matters

Integrating Google Slides with Google Docs allows teams to embed live-linked presentation slides directly inside written documents, eliminating the need to manually update visuals when the source presentation changes. This Google Workspace integration is essential for keeping reports, proposals, and briefs automatically in sync with the latest slide content. By using the Link to presentation option, any collaborator viewing the Google Doc can refresh the slide with a single click, ensuring version accuracy across both tools. This workflow is a key productivity feature for teams that manage both presentation decks and long-form documentation within Google Workspace.
