Quick summary

Adding a gradient in Canva lets you blend multiple colors across any element or background for a polished, professional design. This tutorial walks you through every step — from opening your design to managing gradient colors using Canva's built-in color picker.

Steps

  1. Create or open an existing design in Canva.
  2. Select the element or background you'd like to edit.
  3. Go to the Background color option at the top of the edit toolbar.
  4. Under Document colours, click the Addition icon to add a new colour.
  5. Go to the Gradient tab in the color picker panel.
  6. Under Gradient colours, click the Addition icon to add a new gradient color — you can add up to 10 gradient colours.
  7. To delete a colour, select the colour tile you want to remove, then click the Trash icon.

📌 Why this matters

Canva's built-in gradient tool makes it easy for designers and non-designers alike to create visually rich, multi-color backgrounds and elements without any external software. Knowing how to apply and customize gradient colors in Canva helps users produce professional-quality graphics faster, directly inside their existing workflow. With support for up to 10 gradient stops, this feature gives teams full creative control over color transitions in presentations, social media assets, and branded materials. Mastering Canva gradients is a key skill for anyone looking to elevate their visual design output quickly and efficiently.
